What you get
Pay once, keep it
No subscription and no monthly fee.
Up to 3 devices
One license works on up to 3 computers at once, Mac and Windows alike (Windows is coming soon). Moving to a new computer? Deactivate the old one in its settings to free up a seat. If the old one is lost or broken, write to us and we’ll sort it out.
Every 1.x update
All 1.x updates are free. Utter downloads them in the background, and you choose when to restart and update. 2.x will be a paid upgrade, with a discount for existing customers.
14-day full trial
The trial starts the first time Utter successfully produces speech, not when you install it, so the time it takes to get a key from your provider doesn’t count. Once it ends without a license, each read stops after about the first 100 words.
14-day refunds, no questions asked
Write to us within 14 days of buying and you get a full refund, no reason needed. See the refund policy.
Payment through Creem
Creem is our merchant of record: it takes the payment and handles tax and invoices. The checkout shows the final amount, including any tax that applies where you live. Your license key arrives by email once you’ve paid.
on top of that
What the voice services cost
Speech is made on your own account with the provider, and the provider bills you directly by usage. Utter adds nothing and never handles it. Here is roughly what an hour of listening costs, worked out from each provider’s published prices.
xAI
- Billed by
- Characters of input text
- Published price
- US$15 per million characters
- An hour of listening
- English: about US$0.8Chinese: about US$0.3
Gemini
- Billed by
- Tokens of output audio
- Published price
- US$9 per million audio tokens; US$18 from January 1, 2027
- An hour of listening
- About US$0.8About US$1.6 from 2027
Doubao Speech
- Billed by
- Characters of input text
- Published price
- CN¥3 per 10,000 characters, pay as you go
- An hour of listening
- English: about CN¥16Chinese: about CN¥5.4
How we estimated: English at about 150 words a minute comes to about 54,000 characters an hour; Chinese at about 270 characters a minute plus punctuation comes to about 18,000. Gemini bills by the length of the audio, at about 25 tokens per second (Google’s figure), so an hour is about 90,000 tokens whatever the language; the input text costs under US$0.02 and is left out.
Google AI Studio’s free tier can also be used for Gemini speech, with usage limits; Google may use free-tier content to improve its products. See the Gemini API Additional Terms.
Prices checked against each provider’s website on November 8, 2026. Providers can change them at any time; their own websites have the final word. Utter is not affiliated with xAI, Google, ByteDance or Volcano Engine.
